The cuts were not as bad as first expected, but they will be cut again next year.

That was my thought as well the cut mentioned was instead of and not in addition to

From the beginning i thought that 1st number that was thrown out was bigger than the actual number would be if for no other reason than the politicians could cut funding and still claim to have voted to raise education funding (raised over what was proposed LOL)

In any case you will see cuts in our schools but hopefully it will be in the form of attrition rather than layoffs

    Cat 5 crisis.

    • The Kansas City, Mo., School District is closing nearly half its 61 schools, with almost 300 teachers among those losing their jobs once 29 campuses go dark. The Montgomery, Ala., Public School Board voted last week to lay off more than 600 employees, including 415 teachers, in what it said was just the first phase of staff reductions.
    • In the northwest suburbs of Chicago, the Illinois 46th District school board this week approved a proposal to lay off more than 1,000 employees ? about 25 percent of the district?s staff ? to help make up a projected deficit of $44 million. More than 700 teachers would lose their jobs, including all first-, second- and third-year instructors.
    • ...
    • California school districts issued preliminary layoff notices Monday to about 22,000 teachers and administrators, nearly 7 percent of the professional workforce; 10,000 so-called classified workers ? bus drivers, maintenance workers and cafeteria staff ? could also get the ax, state Superintendent Jack O?Connell
